Buddhist sculpture art showcased in Hanoi

More than 100 Asian Buddhist sculptural works from 7th to 19th century are on show at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts from this afternoon.

This is the first time the Buddhist sculptural works of collector Duong Phu Hien have introduced to the public.

 

The Buddhist sculptures on display, which are made of bronze, gold, silver, stone, ceramic, pearl and wood feature various art styles of Asian countries. Particularly, tens of sculptural works on Vietnam Buddhism show not only the special value of Vietnam Buddhist arts but also the role of Buddhism in the Vietnamese spiritual life.

 

Director of the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts Truong Quoc Binh said that these are masterpieces which prove the creativity of people of different period of time and in different countries. These art works is also the evidence of the strong vitality and immortality of the Buddhism, one of the great religions of the mankind.

 

According to collector Duong Phu Hien, visitors to exhibition not only have a chance to witness the great value of the Buddhist sculpture but also feel the œmerciful dogma in the people morality. He said he started his collection since 1967 and œall are from the great passion and affinity to Buddhist.

 

The exhibition, organised to welcome the UN Vesak Day in Vietnam (May 13 17) and the 2,000th anniversary of Vietnam Buddhist, will last until the end of this month.
