Two-wheeler fest comes to Hoi An

A parade featuring two-wheelers from Vietnam past will be held from June 26 to 27 in the ancient town of Hoi An.

The parade, part of the third Quang Nam Heritage Journey, is expected to include an array of famous bicycles and motorbikes dating from 1920 to 1960.

The public will vote on the most venerable two-wheelers in the Miss Vintage Vehicle contest. Visitors will also have an opportunity to take in an exhibition featuring the history of vehicles in Vietnam stretching back to the dawn of the wheel.

The parade of old vehicles, which will open on June 27 at 3.30pm at the Palm Garden Resort, will pass the ancient town of Hoi An to join the opening ceremony of Quang Nam Heritage Journey 2007.

The parade will come to the My Son on June 28, dropping in on the famous bronze village Phuoc Kieu in Dien Ban and the traditional silk village of Duy Xuyen. It will come back to Hoi An Town to take part in the selection of the most beautiful vehicle. The selection will be held along with dinner and dancing beginning at 7.30pm at the Palm Garden Resort.

According to organisers, registration is ongoing and the first 200 participants who sign up before June 15 will receive money for accommodation and food.

Money from the event will be donated to charities for the poor and victims of Agent Orange.
