Rome opens culture-swap festival
Vietnamese images, fashion and cuisine will be showcased at a festival in Rome from May 25 and July 15, said Italian Ambassador Matacotta Cordelia.
Running in parallel with the Italian Culture Festival in Vietnam (from April to October), the Vietnamese culture festival aims to give Italians and tourists in Rome a vivid impression of Vietnam as part of Italian efforts to increase understanding between the two countries, he said.
Sponsored by the Rome administration, the culture festival is set to open with a charity concert by Italian singer Paola Turci and dancer Giogio Rossi on May 25 at the Via della Conciliazione. Proceeds from the concert will go to charity funds in Vietnam.
The highlight of the festival will be a fashion show by well-known Vietnamese designer Minh Hanh on June 7 at Rome's City Hall. The show is expected to present an exclusive collection of Vietnamese designs using handmade materials crafted in Vietnam.
Hanh will be accompanied by Vietnamese models Phuong Lien and Hoang Yen.
The fashion show will be followed by a photo exhibition by Vietnamese photographers Long Thanh. Duong Minh Long, Hoang Xuan Lam and Hai Dong from June 12 to July 15. The photos will be three metres by six metres and will depict images of Vietnam past and present.
During the festival, Vietnamese cooking classes will be held by the Vietnamese community in Rome, while Vietnamese tea will be served at coffee shops in the city.
