Indian artist takes trip into the woods
A painting exhibition by the Indian female painter Bhavani G S gave Hanoians a glimpse of nature from her South Asian country when its doors opened to the public on Thursday.
Entitled Whisper of the Woods, the exhibition presents 14 oil-on-canvas paintings, all portraying nature and the environment.
"I was born and grew up in Coorq, a land blanketed by the green of forests and coffee farms, giving me endless inspiration. All my work is dedicated to nature," said the 39-year-old painter, who holds a fine arts Master degree.
Although living in the city for more than 10 years, her work is still deeply connected to the green forest. Natural landscapes motivate her choice of colours, strokes and structures in her work.
Bhavani leaves her work nameless, explaining, "I want to let people feel free and have their own feelings when they look at my pictures. I dont want to set a default."
One visitor, Anh Tuyet, said the paintings make her feel relaxed and somehow takes away her fatigue.
"I have visited Bangalore so when I look at the paintings, I have a familiar feeling," said Tuyet. "Through Bhavani lens and strokes, tiny plants, dry leaves and dew drops develop their own spirit."
On top of the paintings, Bhavani is also presenting six colour photographs, still carrying on the theme of nature. Like her other works, the photos are untitled.
Before bringing the paintings to Ha Noi, Bhavani presented her art work in several solo exhibitions in her hometown of Bangalore and in New Zealand in 2002.
The Whisper of the Woods exhibition runs until next Friday at the Ha Noi Fine Arts Association Exhibition House, 16 Ngo Quyen Street.
