Hanoi to have another opera house

A new opera house named Thang Long will be built on an area of 23,000 sq.m in Me Tri commune, Tu Liem district, according to the Hanoi Department of Construction.

Under the initial plan, Thang Long Opera House will contain all service, technical support and administration sections and have 2 to 4 floors. For the first phase of the plan, which includes numerous investigation activities, Hanoi will set aside VND1,500million.

At present, the Hanoi Department of Construction, which is the chief investor of the project, is selecting a project advisory unit as well as architectural design proposals. Initial preparation works are expected to be completed by December 2007.

The new opera house may be inaugurated in 2012. So one century and a year after the French built the famous Hanoi Opera House, which is considered a miniature of the French Opéra national de Paris, Hanoians will have another first-rate opera house.
