The dances of Ta Oi ethnic group

Often during the year the ethnic people of Ta Oi in A Roang Commune, located in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, perform their traditional dances and songs. They dance to welcome special guests or on special events.

Vien Dang Minh, leader of the music and dancing group Ta Oi, told  the Daily that the group frequently stage live entertainment on festive occasions, such as the Buffalo Sacrificing Festival, celebrations for new homes, before crop planting and after crop harvests.

Minh added that the men and women of Ta Oi will entertain groups of tourists with their dancing and singing when they visit their village, which is located by the Ho Chi Minh Highway about 60 kilometers from the heart of Hue City.

The men play the gong, khen and other popular musical instruments of ethnic groups in Vietnam to accompany the dancing and singing at such ceremonies.

As you may know, the wind instrument khen is made of small bamboo tubes arranged closely together with one end connected to a wooden sound box.

A tour to Ta Oi ethnic group village can be booked at travel companies in Hue.
