HCMC hosts 1 million foreign visitors so far
Ho Chi Minh City hosted more than 1 million foreign holidaymakers over the past five months, a year-on-year increase of 10%, according to the municipal tourism department.
In May alone, the southern hub received 175,000 international tourists, representing an annual rise of 10.9%. Most of visitors came from Australia, Japan, the US and the Republic of Korea.
During the five-month period, the municipal tourism sector recorded a turnover of close to VND 8.5 trillion, a year-on-year rise of 40%.
An estimated 50,000 local tourists went on outbound tours in May, mainly to Cambodia, China, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.
Meanwhile, Hanoi welcomed more than 3 million visitors during the five-month period, including 657,000 foreigners, and fetched nearly VND 8.2 trillion.
The General Statistics Office reported that the country has so far this year received 1.8 million international visitors, a year-on-year growth of 12.4%.
